Model 1861' U.S. Springfield rifle-musket, manufactured under contract by Lamson Goodnow and Yale Company in Windsor, VT. The L.G.& Y contract muskets were known as the 1861 'special model rifle muskets'. They differed from the original 1861 model slightly (no bolster clean out screw and barrel bands with screws instead of the band retainers in the stock). They were made by L.G.&Y,Colt and Amoskeag mfg.,they were close to what was to become known as the model 1863. |
