My Grandfather's model 94 30-30
Gramp told me he purchased this fine rifle at the drug store in Whitefield circa 1923. Serial number lookups date it to being manufactured in 1904 or 1905. Gramp was born in 1901. With it's 26" barrel and the half-magazine/button magazine, it was a special order rifle.
My Father had borrowed the 30-30 and I always remember it being in the closet. In the late 1970's Gramp decided to move to Florida fulltime. I talked to him about the rifle and he told me that he didn't have enough things (of like value) to give to all the Grandkids but he'd sell it to me. I asked him how much he wanted for it. He paused for a few seconds, smiled and said "how about 20 bucks?" I dug deep and paid up.
Floyd died in 1985. This rifle means more to me than any other in the fault. I never deer hunted with my Father or Grandfather, but knowing that this was their deer rifle makes it all that more important to me.
