DareDevil and Rookie Driving School

Groveton's Riverside Speedway provides fans and families great entertainment every Saturday night throughout the summer months. You'll see touring series Pro-Stocks, the venerable Late Models and plenty of support divisions. And you'll be astonished when you see a youngster jump out of a race car in victory lane and realize they are as young as 10 years old.

Riverside's DareDevil division is an entry level developement class that provides young aspiring racers with guidance and experience.

Jean LeBlanc, Riverside's general manager, takes the youth racing very seriously.
"What I try to do as a racer and a parent is help them realize reality before reality smacks them in the face. It is nice to win a short track championship, however 99.9 percent of the time, you are not going to get the call from Nascar to replace a cup driver. The most important steps at a young age is to gain the respect from your fellow competitors." Jean went on to say "If that is what Riverside Speedway is destined to do, create good young drivers, our staff is ready to do it."

Saftey, awareness and respect were the top issues of discussion.

Most of the DareDevil rookies had never driven on a race track before, but that is not the case for rookie racers in the other divisions. Most of them are moving up from lower classes. Jean, a veteran late model racer himself, offered sound advice about what they can look forward to.

The first time drivers were able to take along a co-pilot for a few laps.
